More about MIM/FIM

MIM/FIM includes a synchronization engine that manages identities and enables integration of various systems to Active Directory. In MIM/FIM a set of agents reads and updates the information in different systems. To see which system handles the FIM handles, see FIM Product Overview

Many options

MIM/FIM has an custom agent framework, which enables the construction of a custom agent who can handle systems and functions, without complete support.

MIM/FIM creates dynamic groups based on a variety of variables in different systems, i.e. type of employment, department or other. The groups can then be used for mailing lists or to manage access in the various systems.

User and group management in MIM/FIM has great flexibility; the customer decides how functionality and flow between these systems should look like.

The synchronization of password changes is possible with MIM/FIM, i.e. when a user changes his password in one system it is caught up by the MIM/FIM and forwarded to other systems.

By automating and reuse information in existing systems, significant efficiency and quality gains, cost savings and improved IT security occurs.

FIM 2010 FAQ

* In 2014, Microsoft announced that Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) is renamed into Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM). FIM 2010 R2 is the successor to Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) 2007. ILM was in turn an amalgamation of the products: the Certificate Lifecycle Manager (CLM) 2007 and Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS) 2003.
